Buri Weave

One of the thriving industries in this town is weaving of buri, a plant that grows abundantly in the Ilocos region.

Otherwise known as silag, the buri palm tree is characterized by its large, fan-shaped leaves from which fibers like the buntal and raffia are derived.

Prior to weaving, the buri palm leaves were braided or stripped off, then dried under the sun. Then, they are colorfully dyed in different hues to whatever color the person doing the weaving may like.

Inabel Textile

The inabel is one of the many prides of the Ilocos region in the Philippines. “Abel” is the Ilocano word for weave, and “inabel” can be interpreted to mean any kind of woven fabric. In the world of weaving however, inabel is particularly used to refer to textile that is distinctly Ilocano in origin.

Inabel fabric is made of cotton and may be plain or patterned. The abel cloth is well known and much loved for its softness, beautiful designs, and strength.

The distinctive fabric is used to create beautiful blankets, pillowcases, tablemats, sweaters, and shawls.

Expandable Water Roller Container for Efficient Water Provision

VISIONARY DESIGN

Group Work

Enscape_2021-05-20-23-58-49.png

The project (Expandable Water Tank for Efficient Water Provision) was designed and developed for easy water collection for rural and urban families. As mentioned in WaterAid Statistics, 33% of the total populace – 2.5 billion individuals – don’t have access to clean water. Furthermore according to UNICEF (2016) an estimated 3.36 million children and 13.54 million adult females are responsible for collecting water which can really affect physical health and may lead to injuries since they need to carry the water container from far places to the other to gather clean water. Whereas in the Philippines, According to the World Health Organization (2019) 1 out of 10 people do not have access to clean water which can lead to serious health issues and also basic hygiene. In Addition to that, In 2016, one of the top 10 leading causes of death in the Philippines was acute watery diarrhea, claiming over 139 000 lives.

With all things that are considered our product (Expandable Water Container for Efficient Water Provision) aims to solve some problems that are identified. Additionally, the product aims to help the user lessen the stress of carrying bulky containers that are hard to transport due to its size. By creating the Expandable Water Tank the user will no longer have to carry a huge container, it will only require them minimal effort to carry the water container. Also it will reduce the time consumption when fetching water and will encourage them to do proper sanitation to ensure water security/availability in their homes.

This Expandable Water Tank can hold up to max. 50 gallons of water (almost the size of the well-known blue plastic drum). Its expandable feature can make it compact during transportation and expanded only when filled with water. Significantly, there are wheels and trolley handles attached to it to make the water transportation convenient.

COMPARISON TO CURRENT DESIGN SOLUTION

These existing water rollers are invented to ease the everyday struggle of fetching water from distant water sources. However, what’s unique about ours is it’s expandable to consider the strength capacity of the user whenever they will transport it from a water source. These bulky and big containers disable the users to transport when its filled with water since it will be very heavy for them and those water containers should be full or else it will keep sloshing around when travelling. The Q drum requires too much effort for it to be pulled and it can’t be pulled. It mostly works on flat land.

SHOES & BAG

11.png

Biomimicry is the main concept for my shoes and bag. I chose dragonfly as my inspiration because of its fantastic iridescent wings with their incredible structure. I also love how its color is metallic or jewel toned. For sure, it will be eye-catching. With its body form, t-strap shoes is the perfect idea. I also imagined the body of the dragonfly as the strap of the baguette bag. Baguette bags are trendy, especially to teenagers. So, I want to design something that is out of the ordinary that will reconnect our body to nature and to D&G's style.
